Overtraining - Part 1

April 12th, 2008 · No Comments

I have long supported the notion that the zeal many Trainers and Coaches show with respect to conducting high intensity training sessions with young athletes is akin to the unsure actor who feels a need to ‘over-do’ his or her role in a given appearance for fear that the audience may disapprove of his acting ability.

Almost like a ‘they paid for it and now I must deliver it’ mind set.

The problem is that overtraining syndromes are not hard to develop with adolescent athletes and must be recognized as an issue with respect to programming.

April 7th, 2008 · No Comments

I spoke with a friend of mine who is a former offensive line coach for the New England Patriots and he told about the types of football training drills that the Patriots use to increase there football quickness, football agility and football speed!

Here are some of the football drills that they use:

Drill #1. The Speed Ladder

Perform one repetition of the drill up the ladder. Following a rest, repeat the same drill back down. After the two reps of the drill, perform the next drill the same way. Give yourself ample rest between each rep to ensure you can move your feet as fast as possible on each rep.

Catching Trout In The Fall

April 4th, 2008 · No Comments

Fall is the time of the year that many people turn their attention to chasing animals around in the woods and this is one of the main reasons that I love catching trout in the fall. In the fall of the year, rivers and streams tend to become much less crowded as people turn their attention to other things, which means there is more room for people like me who just like to catch trout. In the fall, not only are the rivers and streams much less crowded, it’s also a great time of the year for catching trout. My theory is simple: it seems to me that here in the west, trout tend to “stock up” on food before the cold weather and shorter days make them much less active. I have caught more trophy size trout in the west, during the fall of the year, than at any other time.

Scuba Diving Adventures Lost At Sea Help The Searchers!

April 4th, 2008 · No Comments

A basic concept in most rescue diver courses is self rescue to keep your self from being lost at sea dive, training is important but should it happen having 4 pieces of scuba diving equipment with you will make you chances of being rescued significantly higher and they are useful tools on most adventure scuba diving trips. Like the Boy Scouts say be prepared!

Plastic Whistles, Safety Sausages, Snorkels and a Light.

The 4 best things to have are a loud plastic whistle, a long safety sausage, a snorkel and a light. The good thing is this dive equipment will all fit in a dive pocket quite easily, and are relatively cheap dive gear to buy, so there is no reason not to have them.

English Premiership And The Fan Base

March 29th, 2008 · No Comments

The English Premiership has become one of the best properly organized leagues in the world, due to the fact that clubs from the premiership have been able to prove to the entire world that they are clubs to be respected in the world. This is due to their performances in Europe, I mean in the champions league and the winners cup respectively.

In the last two editions of the champions’ league English teams have been able to at least reach the finals. Liverpool FC was able to overcome the AC Milan team the 2006 final, while in the semi-final of the 2007, three English teams namely: Manchester United FC, Liverpool FC and Chelsea FC got to the final, and Liverpool could be said to have lost out narrowly to AC Milan in the final.

March 25th, 2008 · No Comments

Did you see Baron Davis’ dunk on Andrei Kirilenko in the last playoffs? What about the dunk on Jermaine O’Neil and the one over Thielo Green at UCLA?

Everyone who has seen these dunks knows that it’s impossible to forget them. But a lot of people also wonder how a guy who weighs about 220 pounds at 6’ 3” can jump that high. One thing is clear: you must have very strong leg muscles to get that weight in the air!

So, it’s all about weight training. If you are more heavy like Baron it’s actually about Olympic weightlifting.
