The Cricket Insider was started out of
my love and passion for the game of Cricket. I know there are
millions of fans around the world, male and female, and I thought it
was time we had a woman commenting and reporting on this great game
of Cricket.
Growing up in Trinidad in the West
Indies, I was exposed at an early age to the two main things that
seem to exemplify my country, Cricket and Carnival. Since I was too
young to participate in Carnival, my attention immediately turned to
Cricket. I grew up following all the great legends from Australia,
India and, of course, the West Indies do battle at the Oval. The
only thing better than watching Cricket at the Oval, was listening to
the fans “ponging? (commenting) the teams. There is nothing
better than the classic Test Matches. Unlike most of my other
friends and fellow Cricket fans, I would stay for the entire 5 days
until the last over or last wicket fell. In fact, I’m so crazy
about Cricket, I won’t even leave until I hear who wins Man of the
Match?.
Over the years, I developed an
understanding and love for the game that is second to none. I have
been very fortunate to have travelled to India, Grenada, St.Lucia and
Barbados to see Cricket and was lucky enough to see Australia win its
third consecutive ICC World Cup Championship. I am closely following
the IPL and the new Twenty20 format hoping it takes off here in the
USA.
In 2006, with no experience, I decided
to try my hand as a sports reporter. I succeeded in getting that job
and went on to become the sports news anchor on the evening news here
in Trinidad.
I’ve had the great pleasure of
personally interviewing former Indian Captain Rahul Dravid, former
Sri Lankan Captain Mahela Jayawardene , and our very own World Record
Holder, Brian Lara.
When I’m not following Cricket and
posting here on The Cricket Insider, I follow my second favorite
sport, football. That’s the real football , as in The Azzurri’s
and AC Milan.
